Hackney Wick FC is not a regular football club. Its ethos is based on community engagement and uniting the local diverse groups, as well as battling peer pressure and tackling gang influences. It engages with 160 youths and 70 adults through training, fitness and football matches. This includes 16 youth teams plus sessions for children with additional needs, as well as two adult teams. It does this by offering educational workshops, sporting opportunities, mentoring and providing access to career pathways. All of these can act as a safeguarding tool by actively engaging with those already involved in gangs, those on the brink of gang life and those who might not be aware of the threats out there.
“To be an innovator is to be bold, take risks and just do. Hackney Wick Football Club tries to change the narrative of those living on the estates. We challenge them to think big. We Think Outside The BLOCKS.”
