The Wickers Charity was founded by local businessman Henry Smith, CEO of Aitch Group. The charity supports young people aged 8 to 18 years old in Hackney. The Wickers Charity prides itself on its collaborative work with many local stakeholders, from the local authority to other youth charities. The charity’s main aim is to help reduce gang and knife related crime in Hackney and East London by providing positive role models, learning opportunities, recreational activities, educational workshops and employability and CV workshops.
The Wickers Charity engages young people through sporting activities, creative design workshops, mentoring, career support and more. Its holistic and community-focused approach has brought many successes within a short space of time to the young people they interact with. These successes benefit the society as a whole as they empower young people to feel that they are a part of their communities and to make positive contributions within them.
